Our Mission is Fishin’
Proudly serving Benzie, Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Antrim and Kalkaska counties.
The GTASFA is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting fishing lifestyle and heritage.
We are on a mission to make fishing bigger and better in northern Michigan by welcoming those new to the sport and giving experienced anglers the cutting-edge information they need to succeed.
Our members, sponsors and volunteer board members work together to make more fishing opportunities available to more visitors and residents throughout the entire region.
The organization is led by people who are objective and community-oriented. They are plugged into current issues and are committed to supporting the management of and protecting our fishing resources in northwest Michigan.
The efforts of the GTASFA impact quality of life and the economy. We are enhancing not only the fishing experience, but the entire community, with more, bigger, better fish. Our efforts support not just the anglers, but businesses, the local community and our world-class fishing.
What we do puts more species of fish in the water. These fish are coming back to Traverse City. GTASFA volunteers worked with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to make it happen.
Many of the salmon we have had the opportunity to enjoy in the Grand Traverse Bay represent shining examples of our work. The increase in salmon the harvest is a direct result of the GTASFA pen nets anchored in the Boardman River behind the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce building every spring. The pen nets program paid off in the bays with an exceptional increase at the weir, from 3,176 to 18,428 fish in one year.
With your help, we can help enhance our future fisheries. Join us at our next event or contact us to get involved with any of these projects:
